Home Cooked Comfort Food

Tick Tock Diner, an iconic symbol of the American diner with locations in both Clifton, New Jersey and Midtown Manhattan, has mastered the art of casual dining, providing customers with high quality ingredients, generous portions at a reasonable price and a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere that keeps them coming back year after year.

For over 60 years, the Clifton diner’s famous neon sign with its clock and “Eat Heavy” slogan has been well known to New Jerseyites.  The landmark diner first opened on Route 3 in 1948 and, over the years, has expanded from a small building to its present size of more than 350 seats.  The 280 seat Midtown Manhattan location opened in 1997 at 481 8th Avenue (corner of 34th Street), across the street from Penn Station.  There, the décor evokes the spirit of the original outlet with plenty of chrome and comfy banquette seating.

Tick Tock Diner has long been known for its American comfort food.  Today, it remains true to tradition while offering more dining choices than ever before on its extensive menu, accented with Italian, Greek and Tex-Mex influences.  Keeping in the diner tradition, breakfast is served all day, featuring more than a dozen omelets, farm fresh eggs any style, pancakes, Belgian waffles and French toast.

Dozens of sandwiches are available, from the Classic Reuben (corned beef, swiss cheese on grilled rye bread) to the Monte Cristo (turkey, ham and swiss cheese on French bread) to Triple Decker Clubs featuring roast beef, sliced turkey or chicken and avocado.  The classic burgers are half pound black angus beef.  But it’s not just beef – the Spiced Lamb burger comes with cucumber, yogurt spread and kalamata olives, while the Turkey Burger is accompanied by sweet potato fries and cranberry relish.  Great sides to accompany sandwiches and burgers include longtime favorite Disco Fries (melted American cheese and gravy), Fully loaded Tick Tock nachos ( Chicken, Chorizo Sausage, Onions, Jalapenos, Cheddar, Salsa, Sour Cream & Guacamole), as well as Chicken Quessadillas.

Salads come jumbo-sized and can be a meal in themselves.  Perennial favorites include My Big Greek Feast with feta cheese, olives, stuffed grape leaves and Greek vinaigrette, and Tick Tock Salad, smoked turkey breast, goat cheese, arugula, grapes, walnuts and olive oil.  Entrée dishes include pastas and other Italian favorites, hot open plates and broiled seafood.  Black Angus NY Strip Steak and a Nieman Ranch Grilled Pork chop are grilled to perfection.

For dessert, the options are many, including New York-style cheesecake, Chocolate Mousse Cake, Homemade Diner Rice Pudding and fresh baked pies, including apple, blueberry, peanut butter and oreo cookie.  From the Tick Tock Soda Shoppe, choose from shakes, ice cream sodas and the NY Egg Cream “Our Way”.

Tick Tock Diner has two locations: Route 3 in Clifton, NJ (973) 777-0511 and 481 8th Avenue (34th Street), New York City (212) 268-8444.  Both locations are open 24 hours a day, every day.  From 9pm – 11am, a condensed menu is available.  Breakfast is served all day and a kids’ menu is available at any time.  The New Jersey Tick Tock has a full bar, while the Manhattan branch has beer and wine
